On Saturday 3 April Stuart Parnell, Jules Hoult, Andy Holt and Kate Howell from Hamble canoe club left Nottingham. 26 hours later we arrived in Aleria.
Monday we ran the Tavignanu, a good river to warm up on.
The upper section a grade 2-3 the lower section grade 3-4 through a gorge.
Tuesday we ran the Lower Golo grade 3-4,in the afternoon we ran the Lower Vecchio grade 3-4.Both rivers a step up from monday.
Suitabily warmed up on Wednesday we ran the upper Fium Orbo grade 4-5 set in an isolated valley,very beautifull. It took us 5 hours, 2 portages, plenty of inspection to run 6K to the Rocket, a 25 foot waterfall which we ran. We then hiked out 600m of very steep paths. A fantastic river. Celebrations occured.
After a late start Thursday we put on the Upper Golo, a stiff grade 4-5. A very technical river, portages, lots of inspection it took us 5 hours to run 5K in another remote valley. Some good lines and some not so good lines. Great day. We then sampled the resturants in Corte, very tasty.
Friday, the Travo, the hardest grade 4-5 we ran. Everybody hit their lines, we ran 4K in 2.5 hours. An absolute classic. Fillet de Boof. On the way back to the gite, we ran the gorge section of the Tavignanu again.
On Saturday morning we ran the Lower lower Golo grade2-3 with a grade 4 rapid in the middle. Corsica has enough for the intermediate paddler and more than enough for the more experianced. We are going back next year.
I personally have never seen so many Eagles, apparently they are Bonnelli's eagles and Golden Eagles.
