Easter Surf Trip - Help!!!
Sunday, 07 March 2010 11:41
Slim
I have been planning to run an Easter surf Trip to Woolacombe this Easter (2/3/4 April) and quite a few people have expressed an interest. Whoo hoo!!
Unfortunately for me, due to work commitments I am going to be in Ireland over Easter weekend and so i now need to find a volunteer to run this trip! There isn't much to organise... ie. let people know about accomodation in Woolacombe (either Camping or Mobile home sites - there's plenty etc) and co-ordinate meeting up times when people are paddling etc... Please let me know if you can manage this for me? I will continue to try to help you get this one organised.
I am desperate for a paddle, but of late my work is taking over my time :-( At least the Guiness is rather good in Ireland!

Work in progress…
Friday, 05 February 2010 20:34
Nick Tuffin

Significant progress has been made during the last week to develop the Club’s new equipment storage area. Our two temporary yellow containers have been moved onto the car park, and the large, green BCU container, that was adjacent to our site, has been relocated. The hardcore has been levelled, and covered with weed suppressing membrane, and a large quantity of top dressing roadstone has been delivered. Three sides of the fence have now been erected.
When the roadstone has been spread over the whole of the area, what was the “world class cage” and the other cage that is joined to it, will be relocated into the area, as they are too wide to pass through the gates once the fence is completed, The front section of the fence will then be erected, and the gates fitted. Work will then commence to install racking and to refurbish the old trailers and cages.
EDITORS NOTE: See stop press for Saturdays session!

Since having moved on from HPPCC to the manager's post at Bassenfell Manor Christian Centre (http://www.bassenfell.org.uk) last July, I thought you may be interested in a couple of holidays we are running this year.

2010 White Water Trips
Saturday, 27 February 2010 00:00
Simon Turnbull
Last year saw a distinct lack of White Water Trips, and so for this year I have decided to do something about it! Especially as there is a growing number of intermediate paddlers (BCU 3*) now paddling the white water course on a regular basis. Isn't it time you tried some other rivers?
Well now is your chance! And you cannot have a better start than a trip to the... My aim is to try to have a trip at least once a month and as such I have created a table of trips. Much is still to be confirmed due to water levels/release details, but this will be constantly updated, especially as we get nearer each trip. Here is the plan:

The changing face of the Club’s storage area at HPP
Monday, 18 January 2010 21:56
Nick Tuffin
Now that the snow has melted, one can get a better perspective of the work that has been done to date to create a new, secure compound for the Club’s equipment. The charred and twisted cages, racking and trailers have been moved from their previous locations on to the car park, trees at the rear of the site have been cut down, some of the bank at the back has been dug out, the ground has been levelled and hard core put down. There may be a long way to go, but a start has been made!!

Beware of being offered Stolen equipment
Thursday, 07 January 2010 17:33
Dawn Scott
Glasgow University Canoe Club have had a very large amount of high quality kit stolen over the Christmas period, this includes more than 16 kayaks from all the main manufactures with some very modern river boats. Also stolen were a lot of quality paddles. Someone has stolen this to sell on, so be wary of being offered cut price kit from people you don't know. The club have all of the serial numbers so the boats can be traced if they are found. If you are offered any dodgy kit please let the police know and they will follow it up.

New Year Paddle 2010
Tuesday, 05 January 2010 21:40
Paul Tuffin
On a cold, wintry morning on Saturday 2nd January, Staples’ car park in Loughborough became host to a number of open canoes, kayaks and even a “sit on top” with 21 paddlers turning up to brave the sun, snow, rain and ice for the Club’s new year trip on the Loughborough Loop!
The journey started on the very frozen Grand Union Canal with the occasional friendly wave from the walkers out on the towpath, and the boats that were leading the way having to break through the ice.
